Obituary of James P. Francis

Massena – James “Jimmy” P. Francis, passed away Sunday morning (January 7, 2018) at Canton Potsdam Hospital with his brother at his side.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Jimmy was born on December 4, 1955 in Massena, son of William J. and Yvette H. (Bissonnette) Francis.  He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1974. He worked in the Ingot Plant at ALCOA for 30 years until he retired.

He was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club, AmVets Post #4, Moose Lodge and the American Legion, all in Massena.  He enjoyed traveling, cooking for his mother and trips to the casino.  In his leisure, he would do crossword puzzles and read the newspaper every day.  As his illness excelled and he worked very hard at his treatments, he commented “62 is too young to battle throat cancer.”. He was a good son, a brother’s best friend and a helping hand to others, who will keep his spirit alive.

Hs is survived by his mother, Yvette Francis of Winthrop, four brothers, William J. Francis of Brasher Falls, Michael A. Francis of Winthrop, Anthony J. Francis of Norfolk and Richard E. Francis of Spencerport; a good friend, Peggy Derouchie, for over 40 years; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his father, William on December 12, 2004

Following his wishes there will be no visitation.  A graveside service will be May 24th at 10 am at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.

Jimmy and his family extends a special note of thanks to the doctors and nurses at CPH Center for Cancer Care and the doctors and nurses on the 2nd floor at CPH
