Obituary of Jane C. Hourihan
Brasher Falls – Jane C. Hourihan, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on January 15, 2018. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Following her wishes; there will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Winthrop Cemetery on May 31st at 2pm.
Jane was born on May 24, 1930 at home on Pickle Street, to the late Albert and Pauline (Cyrus) Cummings. She graduated from Brasher Stockholm High School in 1948 and from Canton ATC in 1951 with a degree in Hospital Dietetics. She married Maurice J. Hourihan on May 24, 1952 at St. Andrew’s Rectory in Norwood with Rev. Francis McGuire officiating. She worked at Clifton Fine Hospital for 1 year, Norwood Norfolk Central School from 1953-1959, then at Charlebois Nursing Home in Potsdam from 1970 – 1972. During this time, she also worked on the family farm from 1961- 1975.
Jane endeared her friendships and the love of her family.
She is survived by her children; John M. Hourihan of Bombay, Mark A. and Lisa Hourihan of Greenville, SC, Stephen J. and Sandra Hourihan of Spartanburg, SC, and Sharon and Todd Dingman of Paducah, KY, one brother; John and Barbara Cummings of Appleton, WI; two grandchildren, Nash Dingman of CA and Marissa Dingman of OR. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice who died on June 29, 2000.
