Obituary of Joyce Ann Blain

Brasher Falls- Mrs. Joyce Ann Blain, 87 passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. 

Joyce was born on Thursday November 20, 1930 in Stockholm, daughter of the late Clayton and Anna (Bush) Moody. She attended Skinnerville, Sissonville, Fishers Corners and Madrid Central Schools. She moved to Syracuse in 1950 and worked several waitress positions. On December 24, 1954 she married Earl R. Blain in Syracuse, where they lived until relocating to Brasher Falls in 1965.

From 1954-1962 Joyce worked as a cashier at Roy's furniture store in Syracuse; from 1963-65 she was an Avon Representative and from 1984-1991 she did in home health care for the elderly. 

Joyce had a passion for knitting, crocheting and crafts; taking pride in what she made she would often travel the North Country selling her items at craft fairs and flea markets. She enjoyed games of chance and trips to the casino. She belonged to the Massena and Winthrop grange. 

She is survived by: one daughter Cheryl Ann and Ken Blain-Gackstatter, of Kingston; two sons: Ernie Jay Blain of Brasher Falls, and Hughy Ray Blain of Brasher Falls;  seven grandchildren;  six great grandchildren; a sister ; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Joyce was predeceased by her husband; Earl, a granddaughter, Carin A. A. Blain, her sisters; Louise Moody, Vivian Dishaw, Blanche Gilbo, Genevieve Russell and Margaret Chapple, her brothers; Hubert and Robert Moody.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Joyce's funeral service will commence after calling hours at 8 pm. Burial will take place at Southville Cemetery on May 22nd at 3 pm.

Flowers are respectfully declined. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's honor to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad or North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department
