Obituary of Ronald G. Martin

St. Regis Falls- Mr. Ronald G. Martin, 80, passed away on Friday March 16, 2018 in the comfort of his home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.

Born on March 10, 1938, to the late Benjamin and Barbara (Trimm) Martin in the Town of Waverly, Ron was the youngest of 2 boys. He attended St. Regis Falls Central School and then went to work on the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway. He served his country in the US Air Force earning an honorable discharge. From 1959 through 1971 Ron was married to Joan (Susice) Orcutt.

Ron encompassed a determined and diligent work ethic allowing him to rise from concrete finisher, to concrete foreman and finally concrete superintendent for Atkinson Cooperation based out of San Francisco, CA. He worked on numerous dam projects throughout the United States and Venezuela.  After finishing his construction career, Ron returned to work for Town of Waverly; serving as the Water Superintendent and working side by side with the Highway Supervisor.  Most recently he was employed by Highland Greens Golf Club in Dickinson, a position he greatly enjoyed.

In the past Ron served as President of the Malone Shriners Club and was also a member of the SRF Volunteer Rescue Squad.   

He enjoyed: riding motorcycle – locally and cross-country, fishing, spending time with his grand(great)children, assisting friends on their masonry projects, had a passion for extreme Legos, crossword & Sudoku puzzles, feeding birds and squirrels and just staying busy. 

Ron is survived by 3 daughters: Lorri (Warren) Belile of Massena, Cindy (Brad) Smith of St. Regis Falls, and Julie Andrews of Cody, WY; grandchildren: Warren (Christie) Belile Jr., Jonathan (Ashley) Belile, Jason (Elizabeth) Belile, Chad Smith, Matthew Smith, Katy Anderson, Brianna Anderson, Kalven McPherson, Ronald B. Martin, Marcus Martin, Logan Martin, and Nathan Martin; great-grandchildren: Aleigha, Jayce, Benson, Wesley, Kierra, Reed, Mason, and Colton.

He was predeceased by his brother, Donald “Donnie” Martin, and his son Ronald S. Martin.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
