Obituary of Stephen F. Munson

Winthrop- Mr. Stephen F. Munson, 67, unexpectedly passed away Sunday March 18, 2018 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington comforted by the love and support of his family at his side.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Steve was born in Potsdam on November 5, 1950 to the late Raymond and Barbara (Smithers) Munson. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1969.

For many dedicated years Steve worked for the Town of Stockholm Highway Department as a motor equipment operator; the position from which he retired. He also served as the Town Highway Department Teamsters Union Steward.

Those who knew and loved Steve best will remember him for: his sense of humor, his love for the outdoors, hunting and sports, the way he cared for his family and his true enjoyment of socializing with friends and family. He worked hard, played hard and was a huge NY Yankees fan.

Very involved within the community; Steve coached many years for the Tri-Town Triplets, was a member of the Sons of the Legion, a founding member of the Catamount 8 Hunting Club, and played old timers softball and shuffleboard.

Stephen is survived by: longtime friend and significant other, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Blackmer; 3 daughters and a son-in-law: Melissa Munson, Melinda and Doug Douglas, and Marsha Rushford, all of Winthrop, his grandchildren: Shane Moschillo, Christopher Moschillo, Tera Douglas, Paytan Douglas, and Brooke Rushford; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Marilyn and Wendell Vice of MO., and Maribeth and Robert Patton of TN.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister and brother: Virginia Riggs and Michael Munson.

In keeping with Stephens wishes there will be no calling hours.

His family respectfully invites friends and family to join in a Celebration of Stephen’s Life, Saturday March 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the American Legion in Winthrop. They encourage you to bring a story or memory of Steve to share.
