Obituary of Robert A. Hazleton
Massena – Robert Allen Hazleton, “Bondo Bob“, 71 of Massena, NY, passed away peacefully, April 27, 2018 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Born on June 11, 1946 in Altabate Hospital in Berkeley, CA, the second of four children born to Royal Hazleton and the former Barbara Masterson. Raised in the Bay area, they moved from Berkeley to Oakland in 1948 and in 1962, settled in Concord, CA, with sisters, Kay, Nancy, Diane and brother Billy.
Robert attended Clayton Valley High School in Concord, CA. He then attended a forestry program, and later earned certification in gunsmithing, autobody and fender. He painted automobiles for a living, earning his famous nickname “Bondo Bob”. In New York, he worked for Bakers Painting and the LaFlesh Garage.
Robert married the former Claudia (Todge) Kuhlman in September 1970 and had daughter Kelli Anne in June 1971 and son Robert A. Hazleton Jr. in December 1975.
Robert later made his home in Winthrop, NY with his mother, Barbara Hazleton until her death in August 1989.
Robert met his current wife, Kathy (Tilden) in 1992 and her three children, Tricia, Katelyn and Jeremy. They made their home in Massena, NY.
His hobbies included fishing, singing, playing the guitar and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his sisters Kay Hasson, Nancy Bowers and brother William (Billy) Hazleton; his wife, Kathy Hazleton, mother-in-law, Barbara Scott; his children, Kelli and Kevin Anderson and Robert A. Hazelton, Jr. of Susanville, CA, Tricia Herne of Ft. Covington, Katelyn Tilden of Massena and Jeremy Tilden of Malone; his 13 grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Kaycee, Ashlyn, Reese, Cora, Piper, Myka, Jordan, Jayden, Hunter, Liam and Jasmine; one great grandson, Karter; his sister and brother in laws, Cindy and Mark Small, Karen Scrimpsher, Cheryl and Al Hahn, Randy and Dave, Frank and Val Scott, John Scott, Shelly and Jeff Carrow; many nieces and nephews; his dog, Caesar and cat, Nemo.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held Friday May 4th from 3 to 7 pm at the American Legion Post #514 in 675 State Highway 11C, Winthrop.
