Obituary of Andrew G. Bissonette

Andrew Bissonette of Oswego, NY, died on Friday November 9, 2018, at the home of his son Eric, surrounded by his wife, Marla S, and immediate family in Afton, VA. He was 67 years old. He was born to the late Floyd J. and Marjorie I. Cross Bissonette on August 7, 1951 in Massena NY.

Andy is survived by his wife Marla, son Eric and two grandchildren, Sophie and Nathaniel. Also, by his sister, Leslie Hamilton of Brasher Falls; his brothers, Floyd and Mary Bissonette of Norfolk, William and Elizabeth Bissonette of Knoxville, Tennessee, Daniel and Ruth Bissonette of Brasher Iron Works, and Vernon and Sue Bissonette of Cranberry Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew was predeceased by his mother Marjorie on February 3, 1990, his father Floyd on March 17, 1992, a sister, Laurel M. Bissonette, on December 13, 2013 and two brothers, Donald T. Bissonette on May 27, 1967, and Frederick C. Bissonette on May 9, 2011.

Andy was brought into a loving family which included 2 sisters and 7 brothers. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central Schools in 1970. In 1973 he married his childhood sweetheart, Marla McCargar.  They were married for 45 years until his passing, and together they had 1 son, Eric Bissonette.

Andy worked as an IBEW Electrician around the country but spent most of his working years in nuclear energy in all 3 reactors at Nine Mile Point in Oswego, NY.  A unique soul, Andy had a complex and unforgettable sense of humor, and enjoyed being outdoors, including: fishing, hunting, golfing, growing vegetables, feeding any animal that came to his backyard, and going for walks in the mountains with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop from 2-4PM on Saturday November 24, 2018, followed by a reception at the American Legion in Winthrop NY.

Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to The Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, VA.
