Obituary of Terry L. Grant
Winthrop – Terry L. Grant, 64, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening (November 18, 2018) at Canton Potsdam Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Terry was born on June 3, 1954 in Potsdam, son of the late Richard G. and Jean A. (LaClair) Grant and graduated from Potsdam Central in 1973. He went on to Canton ATC graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice. On May 26, 1979, Terry married the love of his life, Kathleen M. Ramsdell at St. Patrick’s Church in Brasher Falls. They shared a loving and understanding relationship, supportive of each other’s needs and helping each other endure life’s circumstances.
He worked at Canton Potsdam Hospital for several years then took a position at Massena Memorial Hospital in Material Management, retiring in 2009.
He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church and a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus #2176, Brasher Falls, where he served as Grand Knight for many years. Terry was an Umpire for baseball and softball in the High School and Tavern Leagues. He bowled in the Sunday Night Couples League, Monday and Thursday Night Leagues. He ran the Kids Bowling League for many years in Moira and served as League Secretary in the night league.
Terry enjoyed many things: collecting baseball cards, was very active with the Knights of Columbus and bowling. He was a caring and loving person, always there for his family and friends. He honored traditional family values, sitting with his loved ones at dinner and spending quality time with them. He cherished all the special times together.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, a brother, Dale and Colleen Grant of Canton, a sister, Vickie and Robert Swenson of Homer, Alaska, a half-brother, Randy Butler of Massena, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 26th from 4 to 7 pm at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Knights of Columbus #2176 will be honoring Terry with a Wake Service at 6:30 pm. Terry’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 27th at 10 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Rev. Garry Giroux celebrating. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery in Stockholm.
