Obituary of Wendell H Page

Wendell “Homer” Page Wendell (age 92) passed away at the VA hospital in Syracuse on January 14, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was born on Sept. 29, 1926 in Stockholm to Roy A. and Ellen “Nellie” (Summers) Page , one of nine children. “Homer” as he was known by most, married Beverly Idona Shatraw on Oct. 6, 1951 in Brasher Falls Methodist Church with Rev. Frank E Morey afficiating. They lived the majority of their life together in Buckton , where they built their own home. They were married over 67 years. He served in the Army during WWII, worked at Alcoa, at Dairyman’s Leaque milk plant in Massena, Scott Ford in Potsdam, and then at Bicknell Brothers trucking in West Parishville (for 33 years). He retired in 1987 due to health issues. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Handsome Pond Club for many years. He was an avid camper and gardener, who loved to travel with his family and friends. He visited many places on the east and west coast along with much of Canada. There were only four states in the US that he had not visited. Homer is survived by his wife Beverly and all six of his daughters: Jacklynn and Bernard Cheney (Knapp Station, NY), Rebecca and Rex Crump (Brasher Falls, NY), Patricia Savage (Bedford,I ndiana), Wendella and Mark Hartson (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), Lorraine and Loren Benware (Madrid, NY), and Cynthia and Daniel Olmstead (Tully, NY). Also 19 grandchildren , several great-grand children and four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Homer was predeceased by his parents and all eight siblings: Zella (Page) & Raymond Fefee, Dianthia (Page) &Gordon Plumadore, Edith (Page) & Clarke Phippen, Pauline (Page) & W. Frank Brothers, Lillian (Page) & Arthur French, Kenneth & Jean Page, Warren Page, and Aaron & Erma Page. Also by three infant sons: Wendell Jr (1955), Wendell (1957), and Arthur (1959). Arrangements are with the Hammill Funeral home in Winthrop. Calling hours are Friday January 25, 2019 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm with Rev. Lee Sweeney giving a short prayer after. Burial and celebration of life will be held in the spring.
