Obituary of Mary Durkin
Brasher Falls – Mary P. Durkin, 97, passed away Thursday morning at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence on June 7th at 10 am followed by burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Mary was born on August 27, 1921 in Ft. Covington, daughter of the late John and Catherine (Moriarty) Elliott. She married Harlow O. Durkin in 1942, with whom she shared 56 years prior to his passing on June 14, 1998.
Mary dedicated most of her life taking care of her family’s needs and providing a loving home. Her interests were reading, gardening and playing cards. She enjoyed family gatherings, filled with great food, family and fun. Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence.
She will be greatly missed by her children; John R. and Barbara Durkin of Brasher Falls, Philip and Kathy Durkin of Malone, Maureen and Ralph Perkins of Baldwinsville and Erin and Keith O’Connor of Moira, s son-in-law, Edward Gliha of Bainbridge, one sister, Mrs. Shirley Johnson of Chasm Falls, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Harlow, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sheila Gliha, three grandsons, Ricky Durkin, Matthew Gliha and Cody O’Connor, and three siblings, Bernice Savage, John Howard Elliott and Helen Brown.
