Obituary of Norman Cook
Brasher Falls/Naples, FL – Norman Cook, 87, passed away February 8, 2019 at Physician’s Regional Medical Center in Naples, FL. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19thfrom 2 to 4 pm. A Funeral Gathering will follow at 4 pm to commemorate Norman’s life. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Brasher Falls on May 24th at 1:00 pm.
Norman was born on November 6, 1931 in Merrill, son of the late George and Mamie (LaClair) Cook. He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1953. He married Marie A. Burgoyne on November 7, 1950 in Lyon Mountain with Rev. Bernard Chrisman officiating, who passed away May 13, 2000. They were a devoted couple, taking parenting as a blessing for their 49-year marriage. He provided for his family working at Reynold’s Metals in Massena for over 30 years.
He would get totally immersed in his garden, extremely proud of the plump and plentiful tomatoes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. For 40 years, he would winter in Florida, always waiting for the time to head south. He loved his family and the times they spent in memorable places and the places in time that brought everyone together. He was a life member of V. F. W. Post # 1143 in Massena.
Norman is survived by his children; Sharon and Jerry Locy of Norfolk, Margaret “Peggy” and Jack Tyo of Norfolk, Richard "Dick" and Peggy Cook of Winthrop, Joanne "Evie" and Lance Gibson of Phoenix, Susan and Tracy Phillips of Brasher Falls and Debra McGregor of Brasher Falls, his companion, Virginia Phillips of Brasher Falls and Naples, 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Marie, he was predeceased by a son, Norman (Joe) Cook, Jr, a grandson, Shawn A. Cayea, his siblings, Ida LaFave, Frances Dunn, Lilian LaClair and Russell Cook.
