Obituary of Marian Brown I. Johnson

Massena/Stockholm- Mrs. Marian Brown Johnson, 93, passed away on March 27, 2019 at the Massena Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where visitation will be held Saturday March 30 from 11 AM – 1 PM. Marian’s Funeral Service will begin around 1:00 PM, following visitation. Burial will take place at Union Buckton Cemetery at a later date.

Marian was born in Potsdam on October 16, 1925 to the late Hubert and Marie (Shepard) LaValley and graduated from Potsdam High School.

Marians first marriage was to Glenn Perrigo and they had 3 children together. Glenn tragically passed away in April of 1948. On November 30, 1948 she married Loren J. Brown at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam. Together they added 4 more children to the bunch, working the farm life as a team to raise and provide for their family. Loren passed away on March 30, 2000. She then married Douglas Johnson who also predeceased her.

Marian was a devoted homemaker who took on each day with determination and grace. She was an awesome baker, who prepared homemade meals, breads, pies, and just about anything you could imagine.

She enjoyed games of chance and trips to the casino, but BINGO was her thing; always selecting a card with O75 in the corner. Her eyes were so sharp some might say she could spot a bingo from a mile away.

Marian is survived by 2 daughters, Beverly and Francis French, and Sheila and Richard Phippen all of Winthrop, 5 sons, Ronald and Missie Perrigo of North Carolina, Raymond and Joan Perrigo of Syracuse, James and Dorothy Brown of Ogdensburg, Hubert Brown of Norwood, and Michael Brown of Winthrop; a sister, June Colbert of Lyons; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter, Lilian.

Besides her parents and husbands Marian was predeceased by 3 sisters, Alyce Vittacore, Pricilla Revette, and Eleanor Cota; 1 bother, Warren LaValley, and 2 daughters-in-law, Sophie Brown and Nyokia Brown.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Larry and Vanessa Oakes for their friendship to Marian and all their thoughtful kindness and care given.

For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions can be made in Marian’s honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley Inc.
