Obituary of Eugene G. Harrison

Winthrop- Mr. Eugene G. Harrison, 87, passed away on Saturday May 11, 2019 at the Rumford Community Home in Rumford, Maine with his wife and family at his side.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
In keeping with Gene’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 8, at 11:00 AM at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lawrence.
Gene was born in Brooklyn on September 4, 1931 to the late Thomas P. and Irene (Harry) Harrison. He was raised in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania graduated from Shick Shinny High School.
On July 8, 1961 he married Sybil Deloria in Kirkwood, NY then settled here in the North Country for the past 52 years.
A man who rarely remained idle, Gene held several positions over the years. He drove bus in Anchorage, Alaska, worked for the Merchant Marines, was a heavy equipment operator engineer and worked in the steel factory in Pennsylvania, had a hand in construction assisting on the building of the Seaway, and lastly drove truck for Champion Home Builders; “You name it, I’ve done it.”
Gene and Sybil vacationed out west together, spent their winters in Florida and especially enjoyed trips to the casino.
In earlier years Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a passion for race cars and a need for speed as Gene and his 3 sons raced their “3t” stock cars. He was also a member of the Louisville Fire Department.
Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sybil; 3 sons: Thomas G. Harrison and his wife Mary Ellen of Mexico, ME., Timothy G. Harrison of Ft. Jackson, and Tyler G. Harrison and his wife Sandra of Brasher Falls; grandchildren: Rebekah Rodriguez and her husband Steven of Burbank, CA., Brandon Bedell of Mexico, ME., Jamie Coffey and her husband Joe of Gouverneur, Adrienne Harrison and her companion Carson Campbell of North Carolina; and 2 great grandchildren, Jackson Rodriguez and Ian Campbell.
Gene was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Amelia Harrison.
