Obituary of Joseph J. Robinson
Joseph “Joe” John Robinson, 89, of Sandfordville passed away on the morning of June 20, 2019 under hospice care at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born at the old hospital in Potsdam on November 30, 1930 to the late Dorothy I. Dodds and George P. Robinson, Joe graduated from Potsdam Central School and later earned an Electrical Construction Certificate from ATC. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Ann Richards. He married Beverly Daniels in 1954, who predeceased him in 2011.
Joe is survived by his wife Mary Avery Robinson, whom he married in 2011, his children Daniel (Jennifer) Robinson, Kelly (David) Whalen, John (Jennifer) Robinson, William (Sonia) Robinson, and Ellen Cooney, his step-children Rebecca (Eofn) Scudder Williams, Michael (Lyda) Scudder, Melissa (David) Scudder Durham, Timothy Gerlach, along with 8 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Joe served in the Army during the Korean Conflict 1951-1953 and was stationed in Austria and Italy as an MP. He worked at Kendal Lamar in Potsdam as a welder, as a self-employed trucker, and at Niagara Mohawk for 35 years as the supervisor of buildings and maintenance. In 1980, he opened Unique Antiques, which he operated for 30 years.
Joe was an avid lover of antiques, Frederic Remington’s works, and a member of Knapp Station Community Church.
Funeral arrangements are with Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Calling hours will be at Knapp Station Community Church Monday, June 24th, from 10-12 pm, immediately followed by the Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of SLC or Knapp Station Community Church.
