Obituary of Marcia Hennessy

Marcia (Ronan) Hennessy died on April 16, 2020. At the time of her death she lived in her beloved cabin in Mt. View NY surrounded by the beauty of nature, music and her art collection. Ms. Hennessy was born in Bronxville, NY and her early years were spent in Scarsdale, NY. Her parents were Charlene Nelson Hennessy and Commander Daniel Hennessy. She attended Good Counsel Academy, White Plains, NY, and graduated from Mary Immaculate School for Girls in Ossining, NY. Ms. Hennessy was a graduate of Rosemont College, Rosemont PA. She was married to Robert Ronan. That marriage ended in divorce. After college, Ms. Hennessy had worked as a Research Analyst for NY Life Insurance Co. in NYC. She also taught school in Westchester County. She was a Social Worker at Franklin County Nursing Home for 10 years before her retirement. She was an avid nature lover and had hiked many mountains in the Adirondacks, Owls Head being one of her favorites. She enjoyed the company of her two dogs and cat. She also enjoyed many lunches at the Malone Golf Club as well as Belly’s in Mt. View. Ms. Hennessy had a unique collection of memorabilia of the Canadian Classical Pianist, Glenn Gould, which merited her recognition in the acknowledgments of his biography, Wondrous Strange, by Kevin Bazzana. Her name also appears a number of times in the Glenn Gould Journal. She also had an extensive art collection of work by the Mi’kmaq First Nation Artist Alan Syliboy from Nova Scotia, Canada. Ms. Hennessy was recognized for her support and dedication to his art by Mr. Syliboy in The Stone Canoe, a book he illustrated. Marcia, herself an artist, also had a number of her paintings accepted and recognized in juried art shows in Lake Placid. A Month of Sundays by Julie Mars is dedicated to Marcia Hennessy in honor of a dear friend Shirley Carter. Ms. Hennessy was a member-at-large of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ms. Henessy is survived by her 3 dear children, Charles Ronan, Kettering, OH, Paul Ronan, Bend, OR, and Cynthia Ronan, Oakwood, OH. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Charli Nicole Ronan, Timothy Andrew Ronan, Wren Ronan, and Ronan Arthur Kernan. She was also survived by her cherished great grandchildren Lily and Violet Ronan and their mom Ashley. She is also survived by her dearest friends – the longest standing of which is Barbara Locke, Brookfield, CT. Marcia was predeceased by her sister Charlene Haun and by her brother Daniel Hennessy.
