Obituary of Edgar L. Kelly

Edgar Leo Kelly, BUSINIESS MAN AND MUSICIAN
At age 89 Edgar passed away peacefully in his home in Winthrop NY on
June 3, 2021. He was cared for by his wife Jean, Palliative and Hospice care.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Bernetta Jean Bump, and his four children;
Son Alton and his wife Debra Kelly, Daughter Sharon and her husband Martin Wolfe,
Daughter Mary and her husband Matthew Viens, Son Daniel and his wife Susan
Kelly. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 10 step great
grandchildren; 5 sisters in-law, 4 brothers in-law along with many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Edgar was owner and proprietor of the gasoline retail service station on Rte 420 in
Winthrop, NY which he built in 1958. He was a lifetime member of the NRA , a
member of the Massena Rod and Gun Club, the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club, a
member and director of the New York State Trappers Association as well as New
York State distributor of Solo Chain Saws. He worked for the federal government
Department of Environmental Conservation on a Rabies program.
His love of country music enticed him to start up a 4-5 piece band which was called
“ Edgar Kelly and the Drifters”. he played for 25 years at weddings and local
establishments. Through an invitation his band was asked to play on the
Plattsburgh Television station Channel 5. He also participated on a local radio
station WMSA located in Massena. After 48 years Edgar sold his service station in
1995. Retirement was much to boring for the very social Edgar and he became a
licensed security guard at several locations BUT was best known at the St. Lawrence
Centre Mall for 13 years. This he loved as he could talk to everyone he saw
entertaining all with his gift of gab and love of children. Through out his life he
made many lifetime friends and will be missed.
Arrangements have been made with the Hammill Funeral Home. No calling hours at
the discretion of the family. A memorial service will be held a later date.
