Obituary of Leona F. Wheeler
Leona F. Wheeler, 81, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 30th, 2022 with her family by her side. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral home, and in keeping with Leona’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Leona’s funeral service will be held Friday, October 7th, 2022 at St Ann Church in St. Regis Falls at 11:00 AM. Burial with committal prayers will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Dickinson. Family and friends are invited to gather at the SRF Sportsman’s Club for a luncheon afterwards.
Leona was born on September 11th, 1941 in Saranac Lake to the late Thomas and Anna (Hill) Lucey. She graduated from Brushton-Moira Central in 1959, and then from North Country Community College School of Nursing in 1968 where she received her LPN Degree. Leona worked for Alice Hyde Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 31 years, mostly in the surgical, ICU and ASU departments.
Family was undoubtedly Leona’s sanctity. She married Malcolm Wheeler on January 9th,1960. Family get-togethers were her favorite, as her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Leona enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, going for car rides to look for deer or stopping at garage sales. Both Leona and Malcolm are members of the SRF Sportsmen’s Club.
Leona is predeceased by her parents; a son; Timmy Wheeler, a granddaughter; Whitney Lee Marsh; her sisters; Dorothy King, Ella “Jane” LaPage, Donna Prue, and a brother; William Lucey.
Leona is survived by her husband of 61 years; Malcolm, her children; Mack Wheeler (Tracy Wilson), Randy Wheeler (Missy Fraser) and Tammy (Brian) Marsh, daughter- in- law Lisa Wheeler; her brothers; James (Barb) Lucey, Thomas Lucey, Danny (Marcy) Lucey and Dick (Lorna) Lucey.
Survivors also include her grandchildren whom were her pride and joy; Shirley (Brett) Wagner, Jordan Marsh (Lauren Brand), Jacob (Jessica) Wheeler, Mack (Emily) Wheeler, Tanner Marsh, Timmy (Kaitlyn) Wheeler, Leah Wheeler, Angela (Nicole) Lucey, Danny Lucey, Karlee Lucey, Melissa Lucey, Sarah (Jeremy) Goyea, Michael Fraser and Tyler Fraser, as well as 10 great grandchildren who were so very close to her heart.
