Ogdensburg - Mahlon J. Parr, 82, formerly of Massena and Winthrop, passed away Friday August 14, 2015 at his home in Ogdensburg. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mahlon was born in Stockholm on May 8, 1933, son of the late Maurice S. and Edna F. (Fay) Parr. He graduated from high school. He entered the U. S. Army, served during the Korean War as a Morse Code Interpreter, and was discharged in 1956. He went on to college to receive his Masters in Education while he worked at St. Lawrence Central School as a bus driver. He took a position as a math teacher, and after several years, he went back to driving bus. Mahlon worked his way up and earned the position of Transportation Supervisor, a position he retired from. He was very content with a simple non-complicated life. He had a strong work ethic and was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. Mahlon was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, Sacred heart Church in Massena and St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg; wherever he lived, he held deep spiritual values in his Catholic faith. He is survived by his 3rd cousin, Timothy and Joan Parr of Maryland and many friends. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mahlon's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, followed by burial in the parish cemetery, next to his parents.
