One more thing - Bob and Joyce were always next door/farm neighbors of Grandpa and Aunt Betty - when they lived on the Normile farm and also when they lived on the hill on Rte.11 (now 11c) - and what good neighbors they were! Joyce helped Aunt Betty a lot, especially during the last few years of her life; when Aunt Betty had taken up residence in Brasher Falls, was in the hospital or nursing home, Joyce would look after the Winn house. There was not a more dependable, or caring neighbor than Joyce. How fortunate our family has been to have had Joyce as neighbor and friend.

My earliest memories of Joyce are as daughter-in-law of Frank and Ann, wife of Bob and mother of Mike and Kathy. We spent our childhood summers on our grandfather's (George Winn) farm down the road from the Normile farm. As the years went by we traveled much less to North Lawrence, but whenever we did, we made every effort to visit friends as well as Grandpa George and Aunt Betty. Although my sister Louise kept more in touch with Bob and Joyce than I, I kept up with their news. As devoted wife and loving mother Joyce was one of my role models. I admire her also for the many years of service she gave as postmistress in North Lawrence, her cooking, canning and baking skills, and her healthy regimen of eating and walking. Joyce touched my life in one very significant way - she put me in contact with her sister Betty, a nun in New York City. And through her I got my first volunteer job as Family Worker with the new Head Start Program at St. Francis de Sales in Harlem. That was in 1965. A more recent memory that comes to mind is the time a few years ago that Joyce help me locate and cut down a Christmas tree on my grandfather's property. It was cold, getting dark and we were out much longer than we expected because of my insistence on finding the perfect tree. If Joyce had any misgivings about helping me, she kept them to herself, and I left North Lawrence, happy with my lovely tree, and Joyce smiling, with that beautiful smile, happy to see me go!
Her positive attitude, sparkling eyes and smiling countenance will always remain with me. I feel blessed to have known her.

We are truly sorry for your loss. She was such a special lady, friend and co-worker. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She made the most delicious goodies whenever I stopped and of course they insisted you had to stay and have some (which didn't take much convincing). Bob and her will be missed by us and many others, they were a very special couple that we will keep in our prayers.

Dear Kathy, Mike, Dick, Greg, Tommy, Bart, Donnie and families,
It was so good to see you all even though it was under such sad circumstances. I will always think of Joyce as someone who always had a beautiful smile and a kind word. I wish you all comfort and peace in the days ahead. I like to think your mom and dad are getting together with my Dad, talking fondly about the good old days and watching over all of us.
Love,
Mary Beth

You and Bob made mine and my boys world so much brighter. Such a true caring, loving, wonderful lady. My Lady, this world is completely brighter just because you were in it. Family isn't always blood, that's a fact. I smile knowing you are together again and I smile with wonderful memories. I cry because I'll truly miss you.
All my love,
Your favorite neighbor

"Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Joyce. As children, we were at the Normile farm every weekend. Joyce made wonderful meals that we all enjoyed. She made the best homemade bread I have ever eaten, to this day!! Joyce and my mom were best friends, as Bob and dad were. So many, happy memories with the Normile family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family at this time. Another thing that I remember vividly was the beautiful voice that Joyce had. My mom, sister and I all sang in the choir at church and we all looked forward to hearing Joyce's beautiful voice to lead us. We will have those happy times, forever in our hearts. Our love to all of you!"
